I know people love whatever side character just cause but I play Kirby to play a Kirby game and I rather have had more of a Kirby game than get to play as the animal friends or Kawasaki. HAL went too hard in pleasing EVERYONE that they ended up only mildly engaging most for a little and kind of pleasing long time fans. Meanwhile compare them to the mini games in Star Allies and I highly doubt ANYONE still plays the damn wood chopping game still.

The subgames in Planet Robobot were some of the best because they were games with enough meat to get several hours of fun from. More levels for Kirby, more worlds, more bosses, or even other modes that have more meat to them. I would have rather ALL the development time wasted on a BILLION characters who have mostly the same levels in their campaigns, was actually spent making more of a KIRBY game. I feel like HAL went WAY too hard and dependent on fanservice. I wish there was a lot they did differently with Star Allies to be honest. I'm sure doing solo runs was fun for folks. The extra levels are definitely more demanding in challenge, it's got some of the toughest bosses and true arenas, given you don't spawn some of the OP character's abilities and frames. I feel like some of the things this game DOES get right is all the post game stuff. Still I get what people say about the partners and sure. I beat all of them with about the same ease". I play MUCH harder games on the regular and so people saying that Star Allies is way easier than the previous games is like "WHAT? Huh? Didn't notice. However this is not a complaint I care that much about personally because to me ALL Kirby games are wicked easy. If we set that aside, the main campaign is easier. Star Allies just doesn't have that as a gimmick. Planet Robobot was another RtDL spawn but the Robobot and it's implementation did WAY more in that game to really elevate it as doing enough for a new Kirby title. I think HAL was really banking on the fanservice and multiplayer to be the big sell but unless you're a hardcore kirby fanatic (and the kind that even values things like cameos more than actual gameplay) than it's hard to see what Star Allies does otherwise that is different. However because it's just FINE it's also not remarkable. GSAG, however, is just simply "Play through the game again, but you can only use one ability." Meta Knightmare Returns was another piece of nostalgia on top of the pile of fanservice that is Planet Robobot. Let's take a look at the two previous EX modes and compare them, shall we? Dededetour! was a time-attack playthrough of Triple Deluxe, where you play as King Dedede, a repackaging of Hammer with more utility. You beat Whispy and Dedede, defeat Meta Knight, triumph over the Mage Sisters, explore the galaxy, and then fight Hyness and Void Termina.įinally, Guest Star Allies Go is a terrible extra mode. There are only 4 real "Worlds" when the standard is typically 6-7 worlds. This is due to the fact that lives are given out by the gallon. Unless I'm mistaken, this is the first Kirby game since Dream Land 2 to save your live counter between play sessions, and the first Kirby game ever to have an extra live cap of 999. At first glance that might seem like my opinion of it is very high, which it is, but it does have some pretty huge flaws (most of which were easily countered through the updates).įirst off, it's disgustingly easy, even for a Kirby game. I've made a personal Top 10 Kirby Games list, and it stands as my 4th favorite.
